Course Description

In support of GEAR UP's mission to build awareness for undergraduate programs, this course provides GEAR UP professionals with an essential overview of the postsecondary landscape and the long-term benefits of a college degree. It covers the diverse types of colleges and degrees available, as well as understanding college costs and how to make higher education affordable through financial aid.


Upon completion of this course, you will be able to

  • Explain the variety of benefits of higher education for both the individual and society.
  • Reflect on students' motivations and barriers to attend education after high school.
  • Identify and categorize the types of college degrees and the institutions that offer them.
  • Understand the costs of college and the difference between "sticker price" and "net price".
  • Differentiate between the four types of financial aid and how students can access them.

Timing
This course should take you approximately 1.5 hours to complete.


Certificate

To receive a certificate of completion, you must complete the course and pass the assessment with an 80% or higher. You will have two retake opportunities.
